Am I "Mom Enough"? | Marvelous Mundane

“I think I am messing up my kids.” “I am not as good of a mom as others.” “I shouldn’t have had so many kids so close together.” “I am a failure to my kids.”

Have you said these statements to yourself or to others? Have you felt like you are not “mom enough” for your kids?

Oh how I wish we could sit together over a cup of coffee and talk about these lies! In this day and age of social media, it is so easy to watch other moms cooking organic, taking their kids to all kinds of enriching activities, and being creative in ways we’d never even imagine.

Let me remind you that you gave birth (or adopted/foster) to your specific kids. You didn’t have control over which child was placed in your uterus and then carried for nine months. Conception is completely the work of the Lord (more on infertility in another post). The children He placed in your home are the exact children He wants YOU to influence!

Before Judah and Janelle (and soon-to-be-born Joel) were even created in my womb, God knew I would be their mother. He picked me to be the most influential person in their life during their first eighteen years. God knows me. He knows my flaws and my struggles, and yet He still chose me to raise these precious children. He trusts me to point their hearts to Him, seeking to give them the best opportunity to grow up to serve Him.

The children you have are not a mistake. They are hand-picked by God to be in your family. You are their chosen mother! God hand picked you for them. Own it! Own the truth that you are God’s best mother for these children. You are the only mother they are going to have. Take ownership and pride in your calling! No one else can mother these children like you can. You are called to this!

“For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them.”
